I've been thinking this week about the song, Shadow Man and what it says about not only the celebrity but also the fans that follow his career. While the song gives us great insight into what it feels like to have your life on parade every day and followed with scrutiny, I believe the song is just as riddled with insight into how some fans are perceived and seen through the celebrity's eyes. And after hearing about last night's show and the "ass grabbing" that went on during the dance segment, it just drives home the point.
It never ceases to amaze me how some feel the need to touch, grab, grope, yank, pull, hold on to, rush, stare incessantly, and pull him aside when he's obviously trying to give the gift of himself as he does in the dance segment or during Platinums. Even after the show is over it continues when he's trying to spend some time with his friends.
Remember these lines from the song?
No one knows you but they all love you
Look how many believe they need you
Look how many have tried to read you
Every fan needs a fantasy
No one knows you but they all love you
Look how many believe they need you
Look how many have tried to read you
Every fan needs a fantasy
Maybe "every fan needs a fantasy", or maybe some fans can't separate their fantasies from reality. Either way, I wish they would keep their fantasies and their hands to themselves.
Appalled,
Texas Fan

You know, no matter how attractive I find someone, I'm not going to grab his ass. The only ass I grab is attached to the guy I married. I just do NOT understand people. And how humiliated would a normal person be if Barry felt the need to say, "Hey, that's not yours, knock it off!" I'd be as crushed as the Wicked Witch under the house for being that stupid!
Just goes to show you that these so called FANS view him as just a piece of meat. I don't care how much you pay for a ticket to the show, it does NOT give anyone the right to have Roman hands and Russian fingers.
I for one hope that he takes that segment out of the show for good.
The nerve!!!!

What happened at last night's show with the dance girl?
Read the post. I thought it was clear what happened.
I don't know that I would go so far as to take out the dance segment altogether. He's been doing something like that since, what 1979?
But if TPTB can screen people going for the Platinum experience, I imagine they could quietly size up who B has to pick from for that number.
Or, maybe, they've just accepted that this is the risk B is going to take. I've seen footage where security is firmly but gentlemanly dragging a dance partner away from him. Just part of the show.
I would like to say how surprised I am at how someone could behave like that but I can't, it really doesn't surprise me at all. The behaviour is appalling, insulting way off the richter scale for bad manners!!!! Barry must have felt disgusted and abused by it all!!
However as someone who has been a dance partner I really hope he doesn't take it out as for most of us it is just a beautiful and memorable experience!
I do wish he could act in such a way that lets that individual know in no uncertain terms that her behaviour was not welcome!
I am just sickened and appalled to hear this!!!!
Just had another thought about this. Isn't it interesting that no other show review mentions it!!! I think that speaks volumes about what they think about the man himself rather than the performer. I bet most thought it was just funny!!!!!!!
Well it looks like Barry is rethinking the dance!! He didn't do it last night. I hope whoever he danced with on Friday is suitably ashamed that someone lost out on Saturday!!!
We'll wait and see next week!!!!!!!
It's AMAZING that people will go to such lengths to make such an ASS(pun intended) of themselves. How embarassing for Barry and how INTRUSIVE on that person's part. He was a trooper as usual and got through it. Who's to say if that will end the Dance Segment in the show, but I definitely woud not blame Barry if that is his decision. Maybe this will show some in this Manilow World that you are not that special that you can do anything you damn please.
