The sad news hit the airwaves last night on The Insider: Barry is leaving Las Vegas after seven years. It's going to seem strange going to Vegas and not seeing a sign, a bus graphic, or the huge banner at the airport with his smiling face on it. But life does indeed go on, even for Barry. I imagine he's ready to move on, just like most of us are as well.
It is sad on some level when the curtain comes down on some amazing shows and some amazing times. If you're as blessed as I was, you have many wonderful memories and some friendships that will indeed continue after he walks off the stage on December 11th for the last time. I'm sure tears will flow (probably not just the fans) and it will be bittersweet for all.
What I won't miss? The crazy fans. The ones who harass and bully other fans at the show. The ones who hide behind others with their backbiting and vengeful attitudes. The ones who say they have lives but in the very effort to explain those lives make it clear that they are still wrapped up in the fan world.
I think, once December 11th comes along, I'll shut the door to this blog and close that chapter in my life. It's been a wild ride, but it's time to focus on other things. Until then, I'll be speaking for the unspoken majority who have been pushed, shoved, yelled at, and bullied for the last seven years. I imagine, like me, they are ready to make a quiet exit.
And as YBA said a few years ago, "you begin again."

It was an amazing ride, that's for certain. As for the neurotic Vegas crew, they will find some outlet to continue spewing their venom. They will be any place Manilow will appear, but I hope they enjoy the little they get this coming year because it is heavily rumored next year will be it. I guess anyone could see that coming. The next thing you will hear is them taking up a second residence in Palm Springs. Poor guy. They could have their perfect non manilow girly weekends whenever they like. There will be plenty of time in their little lives for that.
I do hope Barry takes some time for himself . He needs it and needs to enjoy life without having to look at the "freak show" night after night.
As it is now I'm seriously thinking of walking away from this fandom even though I just joined it. I've always enjoyed Barry's music and I have all his DVDs, however I'd never before sought out other fans.
The petty sniping I'm seeing between the fangirls, the crazy bitter old ladies who want Barry and can't have him, and the ones who think the aforementioned need to get a life is totally putting me off this fandom. I think I'm going to go back to doing what I was doing before, enjoying Barry's music and whatnot my own way and on my on. I dunno about the rest of you, but I don't need stupid online drama. Quite frankly I get enough crap like that in my 'real' life.
I hope you don't end this blog but I do understand why you would want to.
Whatever you may choose to do, thank you, it's been fun. Maybe you'll reconsider and have something Manilow-related or anything else to always post about. I don't think Barry could just sit still, he'll always be around.
I never thought I'd say this but I do think it's time for Barry's last bow in Vegas, but I hope it's not his last bow ever. Couldn't imagine not being able to see him perform again.
NighDarke, that's certainly your choice and I can't say that I blame you. Unfortunately once you get a glimpse of this fan world, it's hard to put it behind you and focus on the music. Best of luck, though.
I know how you feel. I've never had the please of seeing him in Vegas. I've seen him a few times in Houston which I really enjoyed. I'm a little sad that he is leaving, but I understand. I just read a "review" of a recent show by a fan who has seen him in Vegas 200 times, 50 at the Paris. Is that extreme? I don't know. Even if I had the money I dont think I could justify 200 times. There are a lot of good singers, bands, etc to enjoy as well as museums, ball games etc to see before I die. Ok I will now get off my soapbox.
It just baffles the mind Jill. I can't even wrap my head around it.But...as they say...to each his own.
I know who you're referring to about seeing Barry in Vegas 200 times. IMO that's obsessive, however as long as people who do that don't cross the line by trying to get to Barry away from the show, then I guess in the end it's harmless. They're enjoying themselves and putting money in Barry's pocket so it's all good.
